The Centre for Atlantic and Global Studies collaborates with European Universities within the programme ERASMUS (amongst others Poitiers, Roskilde, Coimbra, Castellón, Madrid) and Universities outside of Europe (for instance with the Universidad de Costa Rica, San José/ Costa Rica, the University of Nebraska, Lincoln/ United States, the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and Okanagan/ Canada, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mexiko-City/ Mexico; University Cheikh Anta Diop, Dakar/ Senegal; University of the West Indies, Mona/ Jamaica; Universidad de Concepción, Concepción/ Chile). The formalization of the cooperation with other universities in Africa (Accra/ Ghana and Dar es Salaam/ Tansania), Latin America (particularly with Brazil), the USA and European States is forthcoming.
The CAGS is part of CALAS (Center for Advanced Latin American Studies, a BMBF supported Maria Sibylla Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences) with seat in Guadalajara, Mexico. This is a cooperation of the German Universities Bielefeld, Kassel, Jena and Hanover, with the Latin American Universities Universidad de Guadalajara, Guadalajara, Mexico; Universidad de Costa Rica, San José, Costa Rica; Universidad de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and the Facultad Latinoamericana en Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Quito, Ecuador.
It researches the topic "Mapping Crisis: Perspectives from Latin America", with working groups on: 1.) Coping with Environmental Crises, 2.) Confronting Social Inequality, 3.) Dealing with Violence – Resolving Conflicts, 4.) Regional Identities in Multiple Crises.
